Get Out of Our Country, Atheists!

Atheists have always been concerned, to a degree, with how low we poll among the general population as to being trusted. We have polled lower than rapists and that should be disturbing to anyone, atheist or not. Why is it we’re so disliked (okay, I’ll say it – hated) by those that probably don’t personally know an atheist? Why is it that just not believing in god(s) somehow brings out a level of vitriol in some people that in any other circumstance, would be considered a threat? Think about it. Some of the things I’ve seen posted on social media by so-called believers are so over the top that it has me wondering about the mental health of the same.

Atheists Are Not Obsessed With God

Why are you obsessed with God, a being you claim doesn’t exist? ?Is a question atheists often hear. Personally, I’m not obsessed with any god, although I do write about the subject on occasion. The reason, I write about something I don’t believe exists is that I want to show others that there’s no reason to believe in something that has no effect on anyone’s life.  No one has to believe in any god to get through life and there’s no punishment or reward after this life for anything.

Words Inciting Violence?

It hasn’t occurred overnight. It’s been coming for a long time and those that haven’t recognized what’s been going on now for a few years are either incapable of noticing a sea change or are willfully ignorant. What I’m referring to is the idea that words are violence and criticizing someone because of what they’ve said or done is inciting violence against that person. We’ve just heard this explicitly from Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) when  defending her fellow democrat, Ilhan Omar (D-MN) over a statement made in a speech where she referred to what happened on September 11, 2001, as some people did something.

I wrote recently that I wouldn’t’ t be discussing Sarah Braasch anymore. I guess I lied. I’ve written several posts on her dilemma, being accused of racism at Yale University. I wrote initially that I didn’t know Sarah, never met her, and was introduced to her by an online friend, Gretchen, who told her I would be someone, a skeptic, that would be someone that would actually spend a little time to look into her situation. I like blogging. I really do. Some Days it’s difficult to come up with a topic that interests me in writing about, and that being something I hope my regular readers will enjoy as well, but I make the attempt. I’m not a purveyor of the news cycle, so I am not always up to date as to what is going on around the world. To me, it’s mostly bad news and although I’m not someone that hides from it, I’m also not a Chicken Little. I try to look, when I am able, to look for the better things in life. It’s difficult and sometimes I feel forced to write about topics that I think most, where they may be interested, are not looking for my view.

“Jesus: His Life”. Don’t Call it History

Has anyone other than me been watching, Jesus: His Life? It’s being shown on the History Channel on Monday’s. Before anyone thinks I’m just going to trash it overall, let me start by saying it’s actually a well produced, well acted docu-drama. Of course it’s based on the four Gospels of the New Testament. It’s interesting to watch how they attempt to weave the four narratives into a single story. Of course, as far as I am able to tell, it’s never pointed out the difficulties between those same Gospels. That’s okay I guess because the show isn’t meant for viewers like me, a non-believer, it’s directed at those that are believers and familiar, to a degree, with the life of Jesus.

Ignoring Social Media Grifters

Sometimes, on social media, we don’t exactly know who our friends are and who’s just looking to gain some semblance of relevance.  Of course, that person may begin by seeming to attack something said, or something they know about the other person, only to come back and back down, slightly, by saying that they actually like the person they just made a horrible comment towards. some people may tend to believe that  this person doesn’t understand and of course is willing to continue a dialogue. This is probably not a good idea. That person is only looking for a moment that would raise their social standing among their sycophants.

Protecting Religion Over the Public

I’ve been reading about a bill, in Missouri, which if passed by the legislature, and signed into law, would not allow any of those that make a court challenge of separation of church and state, to remain anonymous, unless that person were a minor. When I first read about this, I was skeptical that this proposed law would only affect those certain cases. Today I decided to do a little more investigation and , yes, that’s all it would affect.

As an atheist, are you happy? It’s a question I’m asked by those of my friends that are aware of my atheism. It sounds like a strange question, doesn’t it? What does atheism have to do with happiness? Why would an atheist be less happy than anyone else? These are the questions that go through my mind when I’m approached with this question. It’s as if atheists are a different species of human being.

Would Knowledge of God Change Your Mind?

Consider, just for a moment, if today, we discovered that there were definitive proof of God? I mean that that proof would be beyond dispute; Every scientist, philosopher would agree that yes, God has been discovered. What would be the fallout of that occurring? I’m not saying that this God itself would hold a press conference, just that it was discovered that there was indisputable, demonstrable proof this God existed? Would atheists suddenly become believers? And for those believers, would they need to believe anymore because their belief had been supplanted by knowledge? Faith itself would no longer be required.
