When I was a Christian, I was always taught that as a Christian, when I died, I’d go to be the Lord. Maybe others reading this were taught the same but where is that in the bible? I used to look for it, but never found anything I could actually point out that actually said specifically that we’d all be going to Heaven upon our death. Yet, it seems to be taught as an actual fact, even today.
Whenever I speak to a believer about their holy text, I always seem to get the same answers when I bring up the inconsistencies within, or that fact that the Old Testament is rife with murder, rape, and genocide. What is it about this text that makes it holy or even the Word of God?
I was perusing social media and came across a tweet that caught my. attention. Mostly, I see a lot of what I’d refer to as drivel there, but this tweet had me pause. It was overtly outlandish, just someone’s opinion about the state of religion in America today. It was just 2 simple sentences, one of which I may actually agree with, the other, I thought was just plain silly.
One question I never seem to hear from anyone this time of year is should we, in the U.S., actually have designated a holiday for Christmas? Think about it, it’s a sectarian celebration, and with the federal government designating December 25th as a national holiday, are they not in fact in violation of the Establishment Clause of the 1st Amendment?
This time of year, when I hear Christians start discussing the War on Christmas, I always have to ask, what war? I’ve never witnessed anything that I would consider a war on the upcoming holiday and if it’s just the idea that not everyone happens to say Merry Christmas, then I have to call foul because that’s a ridiculous reason to make accusations against anyone.
I don’t know how many times I’ve said this, probably too many to link, but I don’t hate anyone. I don’t even hate ideas. In fact, it bothers me to even have to write that word here because it is something I just don’t do. I certainly don’t respect some people or ideas, but that’s a lot different that using the “H” word to describe what I think or feel about anyone or anything. I’ve always found it confounding that there are those that actually believe that disrepsect equals a form of hate. I think they may need a dictionary.
I don’t know what Christians are referring to when they claim to be persecuted. There are certainly some countries where, as a minority, they are, but I don’t see it here. How can a rligion be persecuted when they are in the majority? What exactly are those claims of persecution?
As many who come here regularly know, I lean towards being a mythicist as to whether there ever was a real person names Jesus. I know I’m in a distinct minority, but the more reading I do, the more I look at the New Testament, none of it actually adds up to there being a real person that went by the name of Jesus.
I saw an article today, from of course a conservative website (hey! i’m a conservative and I peruse those sites!) that described a new museum opening in Washington D.C. No it has nothing to do with atheists, or Muslims, or Hindus. In fact it’s a museum that will perpetuate the falsehood that America is a Judeo- Christian Country.
A little humor for this morning. Last evening I noticed a tweet from an atheist correcting who I assume was a Christian on what the abbrievations B.C. and A.D. meant. It was easy for the Christian to define B.C. as being Before Christ, but the person didn’t seem to have a clue as to what A.D. stood for – at all.
