Why is it so difficult for some people to understand that were not all from the same cookie cutter? We are all different and have diverse life experiences, but there seem to still e some hanging around, as skeptics, that will not tolerate a difference of opinion, no matter what the subject happens to be.
I don’t know about everyone else, but I am actually tired of people believing that because I’m an atheist, I don’t believe in anything. That’s right, I must be some morose person that doesn’t[t have any positive outlook on life simply because I don’t believe in some omniscient, omnipresent, infinitely benevolent God.
As usual, I had at least two different topics I was trying to choose between to write about today, but sometimes something else pops up on my radar and I am compelled to comment on it or else lose the momentum of the story entirely.
I just can’t seem to get away from it. I’ve mostly stopped watching any news on television, but still, here on the Internet, it persists. It’s all the shrieking about the aceedence of the 5th conservative justice to the Supreme Court. It’s time to get over it; It’s done.
As I often say here, atheists are a tiny proportion of our population. In the United States, we amount to just 3.1% of a country with 320-plus million people. Yes, you all know that and we are slowly increasing in the last decade, but we are still not large enough to be of any real consequence within society.

I been wondering lately, as atheists, how much progress we’ve made in society lately? By lately I mean, say, the past 10 years. Heck, I’ll even take the past 5 years. I’m not sure. It’s certainly not negative, but what can we claim as overall positives in atheism just in the last few years?
I wanted to go ahead and give some final thoughts on the conformation of Bret Kavanaugh as Associate Justice to the Supreme Court. Even after the vote this past Saturday, there was a lot of anguish among many about what this appointment will mean going forward. Here’s my take: not a lot.
As atheists and skeptics, we’re often confronted by people making claims that are just not provable by the person making the claim. We often come up against theists that claim God exists, but when we ask for proof, they tend to try and turn the argument around and ask us to prove God doesn’t exist. Proving a negative isn’t possible, that’s why claimants that provide no evidence are usually waved off by most people.
I ran across an article from recently about an appearance by Tucker Carlson of Fox News on another Fox program, The Daily Briefing. Although I didn’t actually see the interview, it’s instructive in the attitude of the Christian right towards atheists.
