So, recently I read Jack’s post over at Atheist Revolution concerning free expression and the difficulty atheists have with just that: being able to actually say what we want without any fear of repercussion. I agree with that sentiment and of course, it’s more than apparent online that there are those that wish we’d just go away.
A little humor for this morning. Last evening I noticed a tweet from an atheist correcting who I assume was a Christian on what the abbrievations B.C. and A.D. meant. It was easy for the Christian to define B.C. as being Before Christ, but the person didn’t seem to have a clue as to what A.D. stood for – at all.
Ever notice that it seems more and more people today are just operating off emotion instead of reason? We can find it everywhere, not just in political discourse, but everywhere in our lives. I would have thought that by now, in the 21st century, that we’d have more people of reason than those that live by those tenets that specifically reject anything to do with the same.
Ever get the impression that when we atheists are speaking that no one is actually listening? I do, all the time and all I have to do is peruse my Twitter timeline to discern this to be a fact. Are the Christians out there really outraged by our blog posts, tweets, and memes?
When I read John’s post today, it started me thinking, again, about what I consider the bad old past. What I mean by that is just a few years ago, there was such a division between athesits and skeptics that it drove many of us away. It did me, for a while.
Somwthing, over time I found I am unable to do is read anyone elses mind. Strange isn’t it? I have no idea what anyone else is thinking about and neither do they know what I am as well.
I don’t know about anyone else, but one thing I’ve learned in my longish life is that I don’t know everything. When you’re young, you tend to think you have all of the answers, but as you grow older, you discover that those things believed in your youth were nothing more tha passing fancies.

I think that one thing that bedevils we atheists is the perception of hubris. That is, we believe we’re smarter than believers and of course, at least some do, go out of their way to belittle those that have long traditions of belief – no matter the religion.
We’ve all heard or read about how atheists are less trusted than rapists. I’ve always found that to be astounding in that atheists are not known for violence of any kind, but a survey has shown that it is indeed true.
I am a white male. Being white and male is not who I am, but what I am. It’s something that no matter how hard I try, or want to, I cannot change. It’s not my identity because I can’t choose to identify as another race as much as I may want to. All of us are what we are. Who we are is something completely different.
