I recently wrote about the problems atheists have in trying to become a part of society It may have seemed a depressing post to some because the trials and tribulations of some that are atheist, yet cannot express themselves, is troubling. I was just pointing out the obvious that all atheists know: we’re discriminated against more than any other group.
I’ve had people ask me, what good is there in being an atheist? This questio didn’t come from believers, but from fellow atheists. It’s hard to be a non-believer, even in the 21st century. I would have personally thought that by now, being an atheist would be more accepted in society. Sadly, it’s not.
After a tragedy of some scale, whehter it’s a mass shooting or some natural disaster, it seems we always hear people offering their thoughts and prayers to the survivors and/or their families and depending on the circumstances to the community as a whole. Why do we hear this, which is especially common from the media?
Is it important for users on Twitter to be able to see the number of followers they have? Last week, in an interview, Jack Dorsey, founder and CEO, saus people shouldn’t obsess over the number of followers they have and that instead should be seeking meaningful conversations. Is he right?
I recently read a post over at Atheist Revolution concerning what liberal atheists thought about we conservative atheists. Suffice to say I was not surprised. It’s clear to me that most liberals cannot come to grasp the thought of someone being an atheist and a conservative, as if that were some sort of dichotomy. None can really even describe what a conservative is, beyond the bible-thumping evangelical type so they just don’t believe a conservative can be a non-believer.
Do polls accurately represent the people that have been polled? I wonder. Going through this latest midterm election, I noticed many pundits, even journalists discussing the polls as to the numbers the Democrats might pick up in the House versus the same in the Senate with the Republicans. What is interesting is that, in almost every case, no one would cite a poll that they said was absolutely trustworthy.
As many who come here regularly know, I lean towards being a mythicist as to whether there ever was a real person names Jesus. I know I’m in a distinct minority, but the more reading I do, the more I look at the New Testament, none of it actually adds up to there being a real person that went by the name of Jesus.
I was reading Jack’s piece over at Atheist Revolution about the impending cry from Christians that there’s a War on Christmas, and as usual when I read these posts, or see stories proving that there is an actual war declared, I have to have a chuckle. It’s become a yearly outrage for some, and even some in the media, to declare that the evil atheists are out to destroy their holiday and the holiday spirit, implied in the same.
Faith is a word I try to never use, even in a colloquial sense. Yes, it does mean having trust or confidence in someone or something but it also is the idea that those are not based on any particular evidence of anything.
Something I’ve always considered funny, even when I was a Christian myself are those people that pray for some financial outcome to their lives. there are people that go through hard timess. Many reading this may have at one time or another had a financial disaster occur to us and the question is, whst did we do?
