I Don’t Accept Your View of Me

I don’t know how many times I’ve said this, probably too many to link, but I don’t hate anyone. I don’t even hate ideas. In fact, it bothers me to even have to write that word here because it is something I just don’t do. I certainly don’t respect some people or ideas, but that’s a lot different that using the “H” word to describe what I think or feel about anyone or anything. I’ve always found it confounding that there are those that actually believe that disrepsect equals a form of hate. I think they may need a dictionary.

Why Do I Have to Prove a Negative?

705D2A7D-76FA-4F8F-8A70-967CA6846DC7

Lately, I’ve been in a few discussions with people I know in real life about atheists and atheism in general. These don’t happen very often, not because I hide my atheism, but because the subject just doesn;t come up and I’m not one of those people that stand on the street corner shouting about my non-belief.

Unintended Consequences

We all do or say things that later we may come to regret. At the time, we may believe we are doing the right thing, whatever it is, but come to find out that in fact, we hadn’t thought our action through very well before executing it. Some may actually apologize to whomever their target happened to be, others refuse, beliving that they were actually trying to do something good and that sometimes, bad things happen to good people.

Why Do You Care?

6A88ADB5-7757-4D91-9B5F-1BC201E3958C.png

I often think about why I write these posts. I mean, I’m nobody and this blog in the overall scheme of those that blog or do videos, is extremely small. I’m happy when I have 100 views a day. so why do I continue to write, or particpate in social media, or anything else? I had to think about it at a certain point and it isn’t about deconverting anyone from their belief to atheism, it’s about just talking to other atheists that may not have another outlet.

Being Atheist

825ACA11-B831-4759-A229-3C74A39AFFEF

I don’t actually know, personally, very many atheists. Many of my friends are online. That’s a consequence of where I live, in a smallish town where it’s difficult to meet like minded people. I don’t live in an area where I have to hide my atheism, I think it’s just that there are few us us locally and if I’m wrong, there are some, as usual, that won’t express themselves due to fear of family, friends, and even their employer.

Is There an Atheist Agenda?

CEAA9B69-A8BC-42CE-94D4-2D4651E6A4A2

Most of those I talk to that know I’m an atheist always want to know what is the agenda of atheists? I don’t know where anyone gets the idea that atheists, as a whole, have some sort of agenda. Sometimes, facetiously, I want to say that yes, we indeed have an agenda, as if there is some mysterious Atheist Cabal plotting something nefarious, but I think better and just say that I’ve never heard of any specific agenda.

Are Atheists Hypocrites?

6C2F2EF3-3F75-4A1A-B5F0-E72B395539F4

During the holiday season (and yes, it’s a season of several holidays) I sometimes come across friends, believers,  that do not understand why I, an atheist, actually celebrate Christmas.  It is after all a celebration of their saviors birth and since I don’t believe he even existed, why would I celebrate a day that is meaningless to me?

What Are Atheists Thankful For?

478BE053-385D-46CA-8F1F-86556C164D3E

During the holiday season, atheists are often asked what we are thankful for since we have no belief in any god, why do we even celebrate either Thanksgiving or Christmas? Over the years I have to say for myself that the question has become annoying. It seems that to many there is no reason for an atheist to be thankful for anything. What does a beliief in a god have to do with thankfulness?

Atheists Aren’t Angry

6143203B-DCD9-49AF-952F-2052766AA670

I’m not what is commonly referred to as an angry atheist. I’m not angry with anyone at all. I don’t actually care what most believers think about me, an atheist, and it shouldn;t bother anyone else either. Why should I be angry about being a non-believer? If anything, for all of us, it should allow us a portion of freedom from something that has always damned those that either didn;t believe, or believed differently.

Respecting Belief and Believers

5E234101-7671-49FC-BAE8-08DF28951B96

I think that every atheist blogger, and YouTuber has discussed the topic of respecting belief before. I’m certain I have, some years ago, but like everything, time sometimes allows for the evolution of thinking on the subject. It’s not that I’ve actually changed my mind but there are more subtleties to the answer than I think I took into account when I first wrote about it.
